What is the check-in/check out procedure?
When you come into the Jr. High, go to the cafeteria. The elementary area is first on your left. The nursery and preschool areas are straight ahead. Once you get to your child's class area, fill out a registration form and sign-in on the check in sheet. In the nursery, you will receive a bin for your child's diaper and bottle. Security tags will be given to all parents of children nursery through 2nd grade. After the service, return to your child's class area with your security tag and sign out your child.
What should I leave with my child?
For children in the nursery, you can leave a diaper, a pacifier, and a bottle or sippy cup in a bin provided for each child. Please label all items.
What if my child cries?
We understand that many children struggle with separation anxiety. We will do our best to provide whatever your child needs to have a great experience in the nursery. If your child is unable to be consoled after 10 minutes, we will call your cell phone or put your child's security tag number on the screen in the auditorium.
Where do the children have their classes?
The Rapids is currently housed in the cafeteria. The large room is divided into areas appropriate to different ages. The nursery has much of the floor covered with rubber mats so children will be safe. Preschool age children have rugs that they sit on for story and music time. Tables and chairs are set up for children to have snack, craft and other activities.
The Rapids has established ratios of children to adult workers to maintain a fun, yet safe learning environment appropriate for children.
Infants: three children per adult;
Toddlers: four children per adult
Two-year-olds: six children per adult
Preschoolers: eight children per adult
Kindergartners -5th Grade: 10 or less children per adult.
Are the volunteers screened?
All volunteers in The Rapids are screened via background checks and personal interviews with staff members.
